Voting for A President
The president election is just a step away. Three candidates have been campaigning, giving speeches at electorate TV channels, and showing off their vision and mission. They are :
1. Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo as her candidate for vice president. She is the 2nd daughter of Soekarno, first President of Indonesia. She was once our three-year President chosen to replace Mr. Gus Dur. Megawati has no spesific background of study.
2. M. Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto as his candidate for vise president. He is the current Vice President and a successful businessman. So far he is a competent VP, with all the policies, forces, and analysis. He also has good knowledge of economy.
3. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono as his candidate for vice president. He is the curent President, from the military background, and a Dr. of Agriculture. I think he’s been successful with our country during this 5-year period of leading –> prosperity and growth rate increase, corruption cases are handled quite well, small industries and agriculture find their moments back after years.
I have long fixed my vote for who is becoming the next President. Now I just want to share the points corresponding to my choice. Below are aspects I consider, hopefully can be your common guide :
1. Track record. How they managed this country during their age of authority, were they turning it positive? Where policies planned and applied correctly and fairly in their former area of responsibility?
2. Knowledge (and hence, experience). Do they have the capacity and experience? Candidates backgrounds really matter to me, what they studied, their former “careers”, and even what university they graduated from. We might not know the detail, but what they talk about during this campaign reflect their quality.
3. Personality at distance. Do they compete fairly and ethically? Big heart to face victory and loses? Their affiliates, motives, intellectual and emotional aspect, political statements, ability to cooperate, and personal life.
Some might chooce not to vote because they don’t believe what the candidates can do to run this country better. But I think giving vote is really important. We know above aspects of the candidates, and then we vote for the best probability. The system is still somewhat messy, but fixing it takes time and effort. Only five years, but so many tasks to do. We should give enough chance for the candidate of our choice. I just can’t stop hoping.

[...] A vote is really important. One vote can make differences, and it is the best right of citizens in a democracy nation. We should feel lucky because we have role in determining our leader. The process of voting is not always easy, as I read in an article. We have some candidates and we can choose only one. The article suggests that we make objective choice, by considering some aspects of the candidates. Choosing a leader is a big deal, for he/she will determine how well and stable the micro-macro economy, politic, and international issues will be for the next period of governing. Thus, the writer shares some “scores” we should consider before making decision. Check here. [...]
