Indonesia Legislative General Election (Part 2)
(as continued from previous post, Indonesia Legislative General Election (Part 1))
- Misplacement of election logistic. Even for the provinces that already got their logistic, some misplacement happened. And we don’t need to look at isolated areas to see this, it happened even in Tangerang for an instance. The voting papers arrived there should be for Kalimantan’s, it’s written clearly on each paper. Yet, the KPU can always make excuses.
- Failure in election process. Some videos and reports about cheat suspects during the voting process are another big issue. They’re still on investigation, but the spreading issue itself is already a crucial sign itself. Another related issue is about the DPT (Daftar Pemilih Tetap, the list of electors). Many people were not listed at DPT, which caused them to lose their right in the democracy party. Demonstrations to express anger and dissatisfaction as citizens are being held, but that already happened. It’s certainly not fair, and nothing the KPU would do than promising a better list and preparation for the President election next month. People feel like they were forced to be non-voters or abstain (Golongan Putih). Moreover, many names in DPT were no longer valid. Some included those who have passed away, migrated, or even names of no one. The list of names is suspected to be manipulated.
- Legislative candidates’ condition after the election. Some candidates needed treatments at hospital to overcome the stress because of getting lost in the election. A candidate even committed to suicide after knowing the fact that she only got a tiny vote at her area. They have raised big debt during the campaign, and now they lose. Not yet to include the big mental burden. Another candidate is on treatment because he is shocked to get the highest votes of all. He said on TV that he was pessimistic at the beginning, because most other candidates were well-known public figures in his area. Do we want to be led by candidates with such a fragile-mental?
- Inappropriate behaviors of losing candidates. Election news updates reported that some candidates are taking back what they already gave to the society during their campaign because they still didn’t get their votes after the big expenditures allocated. Not all conducting it openly, but society speak out what the losing candidates are doing. We can conclude which statement is more probable to be true.
Above are just highlights of election chaos. Inside each party, area of election, and for the overall citizens, the election might leave impressions that not turn out on the surface. But we can see things in general, that there do are chaos. As citizen, we can just hope and express our thought that government and KPU will really learn and fix for coming President Election. Democracy is never inexpensive and uncomplicated. We all have roles in the process, to make it go smooth and result in competent leaders. Citizens might not be able to do more than expressing thought and feeling, we do what we can do, for our Indonesia.
